The Wilder Method is a growth oriented approach that seeks to pinpoint where you are out of balance in your life and help you create a plan for change. This approach has its roots in the Internal Family Systems theory, but has been influenced by fields of anthropology, history, hero’s journey myth, developmental psychology, Aristotelian philosophy and cold/hot water hydrotherapy.

My training in graduate school was the study of family systems therapy with a specialized focus on how to integrate spirituality and philosophy into a therapy approach helping people get clarity on the meaning of life. My training also included studying classical philosophy and languages which helped me to learn how to integrate various disciplines within my classical training as a therapist. My early training and a search for answers that transcended traditional approaches has been a 20 year pursuit for myself. After spending 8 years doing in the field therapy in intensive situations I began to take my learnings and challenge some of the assumptions that current day approaches are built upon and began to develop my own unique approach to helping people to overcome their mental distress. While I found traditional approaches to initially to be very helpful eventually I spent many years circling around the same past issues and realized that people need a more concrete, logical, and experiential approach to making life change. The field of psychotherapy has become very focused on the needs of validating emotions, past trauma, changing automatic thoughts and on the power of telling your story that it has lost touch with the wisdom that the founding fathers of the field wrote about and based the initial therapy approaches upon. Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung both discussed the primacy of the ‘id’ and ‘shadow’ as the goal of the psychotherapy process and they developed intricate systems helping people to learn to approach the dark side of their psyche as the key to true lasting transformation. Both Freud and Jung believed that we need a story or a myth that sets the foundation for the growth jouney and that when we do not realize we are in our own self creating stories that the power of the growth process becomes surface level. The Wilder Method is providing a new story based on history and the hero’s journey to help people reinterpret and take ownership of their life change.

Over the last 10 years I have been developing the Wilder Method and these are the fundamental building blocks upon which this approach is built:

1) Internal Family Systems-The foundation of my clinical training was in learning this evidence based treatment approach and applying it to a wide variety of issues.

2) Anthropology and History-We need a complete understanding of the multiple intelligences we have developed over history which are all need to have a flexible and healthy psyche.

3) Hero’s Journey Myth-Every great story is based on the blueprint of this framework and this serves as a guide for knowing how do we help you measure and map out a fulfilling life for yourself.

4) Developmental Psychology-There are stages and tasks that we must complete in order to move though the seasons and stages of life. This approach finds where you are stuck and helps you to move through the blockage to the next season of your life.

5) Aristotelian Philosophy-Learning how to apply the principles of logic and reason to problem solving is very important piece to being able to become an autonomous and confident person.

6) Cold & Hot Hydrotherapy-Learning how to unlock your ancestral primitive intelligence and regulate your fear response using cold water is a necessary skill for you to be able to face fears and make changes in your life.

Summary: These are the foundational building blocks of the Wilder Method which is an assessment system that guides people through a 10-20 hour guided program where you will get a concrete plan and an experience of unlocking your dormant and underutilized parts of your psyche. As you begin to move toward your growth area you will begin to see massive changes and a reduction of your symptoms.
